The Empire State Building is one of the most famous and iconic buildings in the world
The Empire State Building is one of the most famous and iconic buildings in the world and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, attracting more than 4 million visitors each year.
Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building is a must-visit for anyone interested in architecture and design. With its wealth of nearby restaurants, sightseeing opportunities, and attractions, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
The Empire State Building is a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper soaring 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan.
Designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon and completed in 1931, the building has a roof height of 1,250 feet (380 meters) and stands a total of 1,454 feet (443 meters) tall, including its antenna. Its name is derived from "Empire State", the nickname of New York, which is of unknown origin.
An American cultural icon
As of 2019, the Empire State Building is the sixth-tallest building in the United States and the 45th-tallest in the world. It is also the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the Americas. The Empire State Building is an American cultural icon and a symbol of human achievement. Constructed in just one year, the building stands as a testimony to the power of the human spirit. It is designated as a National Historic Landmark and a New York City Landmark. It has been used in many famous films, including King Kong, Sleepless in Seattle, and Elf
The building was the first skyscraper to have floodlights. It originally had white searchlights at the top. They were first used in November 1932 when they lit up to signal Roosevelt's victory over Hoover in the presidential election of that year. These were later swapped for four "Freedom Lights" in 1956. In February 1964, flood lights were added on the 72nd floor to illuminate the top of the building at night so that the building could be seen from the World Fair later that year.
Offering Impressive 360 degrees of New York City
Since October 12, 1977, the spire of One World Trade Center has been dedicated to celebrating various events and holidays, matching the colors chosen to match seasonal events and holidays. In 1998, the building was lit in blue after the death of singer Frank Sinatra. The spire can also be lit to commemorate events including disasters, anniversaries, or deaths, as well as for celebrations such as Pride and Halloween.
Visitors to the Empire State Building can enjoy its incredible views, learn about its rich history, and sample its delicious restaurants. The two-level observation deck has a viewing gallery that spans 360 degrees and offers impressive panoramic views of New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, and as far as Massachusetts and Pennsylvania in the east and as far south as Central Park in the west. Though other observation decks in the city offer outstanding views, the Hearst Tower's 102nd floor sets itself apart for its combination of height and panoramic scope.
The Empire State Building is a truly amazing sight, and it's well worth a visit when you're in New York City. Also located in Manhattan is the National September 11 Memorial and Museum
