About Brooklyn, New York
Sitting on the western end of Long Island, Brooklyn is part of the five boroughs that make up New York City. The borough has an estimated population of 2.6 million residents as per the last census making it one of the largest suburbs in New York City.
It occupies a land area if 180 square kilometers. The Brooklyn Bridge, an engineering marvel constructed in 1883 connects Brooklyn to Manhattan.
Unlike its neighbor, Brooklyn has had a rough past and reputation. It is constantly considered as one of the least unsafe boroughs in New York City. However, it is mostly safe, although visitors and residents alike should take care when walking about late at night.
Areas with high crime rates such as Brownsville and East New York in Brooklyn do not attract a lot of visitors though. That said, Brooklyn is a bustling metropolitan. It is a hub of lots of cultural and economic activities common to New York City.
